Educational Qualification:

Received BSc Engg (Electrical) degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) Dhaka in 1975, obtained First Class with Honours marks and stood First in order of merit. 
Received MSc Engg (Electrical) degree from BUET, Dhaka in 1977. 
Received PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from Cambridge University (Gonville & Caius College), Cambridge (UK) in 1986.

 

Experiences:

         Started teaching career as a Lecturer of Electrical Engineering Department of BUET in 1975.

  • In 1978, received appointment as an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering Department, BUET. 

  • In 1987, received appointment as an Associate Professor

  • In 1988,  received appointment as a Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering department of BUET. Since then, worked as a Professor of the EEE department of BUET till 31July 2017.

  • During 1991-93, was the Head of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of BUET, 

  • During 1995-97, was the Dean of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Faculty of BUET. 

  • During 1995-97 worked as the Chairman of the Admission Committee of BUET for two consecutive years. 

  • Was also the Head of the Computer Science and Engineering Department of BUET during 1996.

  • During 1991, was with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Kanazawa University, Kanazawa, Japan with the status of a Visiting Professor and as a Matsumae International Foundation Fellow for a period of  3 months. 

  • During 1999-2000,  was a Visiting Professor of Islamic Institute of Technology (now IUT), Gazipur for one year (on sabbatical leave from BUET).

  • During March 2002 - August 2005,  was the Dean and Professor of  Engineering Faculty of American International University - Bangladesh (AIUB), Banani, Dhaka for 3.5 years (on leave from BUET).

  • 1 year 10 months as the Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka on April 2018

  • 42 years 10 months of teaching, research & university administrative experience  of which 29 years 0 months as a Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, BUET, Dhaka (on 1 April 2018).

  • Member (MIEEE) of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, USA, 

Awards:

  • Received the "Junior Group Academy Award 1988 Gold Medal" of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) for contribution in the field of Microwave Engineering. This award was jointly given by the Bangladesh Academy of  Sciences Dhaka, Third World Academy of Science (Italy) and British Council in 1988.

  • Received "The Matsumae International Foundation Research Fellowship" of Japan in 1991. 

  • Received a three-year Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Scholarship. In 1984, also received Overseas Research Students Award (ORS) of  UK for 2 years in 1983.

Electroabsorption Modulator, VCSEL, OPSL related research projects.

Energy, Electrical Energy, Electrical Power Generation, Electrical Power Stations in Bangladesh

 

Contribution in National and International Level:

In addition to regular teaching, research and administrative jobs, has been involved in a number of National Engineering Projects/ jobs related to (i) Special Lighting (stadium lighting), (ii) Electrical Distributions in high rise and usual Buildings and Cities, (iii) Electrical Distributions in Industries, (iv) Telecommunications and Wireless Communications as a Technical Expert / Consultant.

 

At present: (i) Former Chairman of the Electrical & Electronic Engineering Divisional Committee (EEDC) of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI) (2011-2013) and (ii) President of the National Electro-Technical Committee (NEC) Bangladesh.

 

Worked as a member of the Board of Governors of Bangladesh Institute of Technology Khulna during 2000 - 2003. Worked as a member of the Syndicate of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology, Khulna since the beginning of this University in 2003 up to June 2007. Worked as a member of the Selection Board for the appointment of Professors and Assistant Professor of ECE department of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology, Khulna since the beginning of this University in 2003 up to August 2007.

 

Has been putting significant contribution  in University level Engineering Education especially Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering (ETE) and Electronic and Communications Engineering (ECE).
